Engineering Technician

Engineering Technician (EngTech) members solve practical engineering problems. They are professionals with supervisory or technical responsibility and apply safe systems of working. They contribute to the design, development, manufacture, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes or services.

Engineering Technician members are entitled to use the letters EngTech MIGEM after their name.

INITIAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

IPD may be expected to take at least 3 years and it is a requirement to demonstrate competence and commitment applied in the gas industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are two ways to gain the grade of Engineering Technician Member, Standard Route and Individual Route.

Alternatively, if you are registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) with a UK Engineering Institution (see Dual Registration)

STANDARD ROUTE

Candidates seeking professional Engineering Technician registration, who hold particular types of qualifications, will usually find that this greatly simplifies the process of becoming an Engineering Technician.

Typical Qualifications are:

• A National Certificate or National Diploma in Engineering or Construction and the Built Environment.
• An approved qualification in Engineering or Construction at level 6 in Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework.
• A City & Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Engineering.
• One of the following IGEM approved* S/NVQ Level 3 or 4

HOW TO APPLY

• Complete and sign the Corporate Application Form
• Arrange for a Proposer to support your application and complete Section I; they must have final registration with the Engineering Council
• Arrange for your Proposer to sign copies of your academic certificates to confirm they have seen the originals and believe these to be true copies
• Submit completed Corporate application form along with copies of certificates and relevant application fee

Candidates will be notified of the result of the Membership Committee as soon as a decision has been made.

INDIVIDUAL ROUTE

Candidates seeking professional registration for Engineering Technician without the types of qualifications listed above may apply for an Individual Route assessment. Experienced, practising professional Engineering Technicians are often found to have gained the necessary knowledge and skills for their job through working closely with other skilled colleagues over a number of years. This route involves an in depth appraisal of the applicant's competence and will require an interview.

HOW TO APPLY

• Complete and sign the EngTech Individual Route Application Form
• Arrange for a Proposer to support your application and complete Section H; they must have final registration with the Engineering Council
• Arrange for your Proposer to sign copies of your certificates to confirm they have seen the originals and believe these to be true copies.
• Submit completed Corporate application form along with copies of certificates and relevant application fee to Membership Services.

Candidates will be notified of the result of the Membership Committee as soon as a decision has been made.
