Gas Industry Awards 2016 shortlist announced

The Gas Industry Award 2016 finalists have been announced.

Having deliberated over nearly 100 entries into the prestigious awards, the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) and the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) have announced the shortlisted nominees for this year's ceremony.

The judging panel, made up of leading figures from across the transmission, distribution and downstream gas sectors, had the difficult task of choosing the shortlist from a stack of extremely competitive entries.

One thing that made this job slightly easier was the fact the Innovation category has been split this year into Innovation Project and Innovation Product to reflect the overwhelming amount of invention and revolutionary thinking taking place within the industry.

The winners of the 10 categories will be named at a spectacular award ceremony at London's Park Lane Hilton, on May 17, which will see around 600 gas industry professionals come together to celebrate the achievements of the industry. Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, will give the keynote address.

Chris Clarke, IGEM President and Chair of Judges, said: "While it's a privilege to be able to judge so many incredible projects and people for these awards, there's no denying that this was not an easy task. As always, the standard of entries was a huge credit to the innovation, dedication and creativity of the industry I'm so proud to be a part of. I want to wish the best of luck to all the nominees who, in my mind, are all winners."

Ian Hughes, President of EUA, said: "After much deliberation, we're satisfied this shortlist represents some of the best our industry has to offer; the most devoted people, the most pioneering projects and the most effective teams. I'm very much looking forward to the awards luncheon, which is the highlight of the gas industry calendar for my colleagues and I, and we hope to see you all there."
