Gas Tag’s new safety tech checks could spell the end for rogue fitters and killer leaks

Since launching last year the business has won local authority and housing association contracts as well as clients in property management and holiday let operators.

Despite rules requiring landlords to make annual gas checks, official UK registration body Gas Safe reports 1.1 million jobs are still carried out unlawfully each year.

This has been aided by an inefficient system where keeping track of paper-based certificates, replacement boilers and new additions is notoriously difficult and a barrier to rigorous oversight.

Now though for the first time a comprehensive alternative is available says Gas Tag which, as its name suggests, provides a smart device that only an authorised engineer can attach to a property's meter.

That logs and updates details about all the site's appliances, their operation, any leaks and who has worked on them so people know in real time that they have been properly inspected and serviced.

"It's ensures correct work is done at the right time by the right people," says Durose. "We're the only technology that verifies credentials via a direct link to the register.
