IGEM Seminar - "Young Persons Paper Competition (YPPC) 2016 Winning Papers Sharing"
Highlights:
The Young Persons Paper Competition (YPPC) 2016 Grand Final as organized by The Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) was successfully held on 23 June, 2016 at Birmingham, United Kingdom. The Far East District Section (FEDS) got a brilliant result this year with Mr. Magnum So brought the trophy back to FEDS.
To nurture knowledge sharing and motivate the young engineers, FEDS has organized the captioned seminar on 25 July, 2016. The two FEDS representatives, FEDS Champion Mr Alan HO and Final Champion Mr. Magnum SO, were invited to present their winning papers and share their valuable experience with the audience.
Their sharing attracted the new generation as well as senior professionals all getting together. After a delightful presentation, the participants shared ideas and exchanged opinions with each other. Past FEDS Chairman, Mr James To, on behalf of IGEM FEDS, presented souvenir to Alan and Magnum to congratulate for their remarkable success.

Mr. Alan HO, Technical Development Engineer, Hong Kong & China Gas Co Ltd
Alan is the winner of YPPC 2016 FEDS Section Heat and a finalist in YPPC 2016 Final. His paper "The Design of Internal Alignment Clamp for PE Pipe Fusion" introduces a new piece of innovative equipment to tackle for limitations in joining new polyethylene (PE) pipes in congested areas via electrofusion when using the existing strap clamp.

Mr. Magnum SO, Engineer, Hong Kong & China Gas Co Ltd
Magnum is the Champion of YPPC 2016 Final and the 1st-runner up in FEDS Section Heat.
His topic "Gas Riser Thermal Stress Analysis Program" is about the study of thermal expansion and contraction in gas risers within tall residential buildings. Software developed to analyse the cracking of gas risers under thermal force can help predict gas leakage, enhance public safety and reduce subsequent maintenance.
