Webinar: Innovative Pressure Regulator Solutions for Natural Gas Applications

The webinar co-organized by IGEM Far East District Section and HKIE Gas and Energy Division on the topic “Innovative Pressure Regulator Solutions for Natural Gas Applications” was successfully held on 24 February 2022 via Microsoft Teams and attracted over 200 attendees.

Mr. Jack Thornton and Mr. Faris Churcher were invited as the speakers to introduce the IM Series gas regulator designed by Oxford Flow. The IM pilot-controlled gas regulator can improve pressure control performance and reliability while reducing costs in gas distribution, power generation, industrial gas and oil and gas sectors. They are accurate to within +/- 1% of set point and class leading response times compared to conventional regulators. This enables customers to maintain excellent pressure control and stability in their process. The compact regulator is up to 80% lighter than some conventional, pilot-operated diaphragm regulators, eliminating the need for expensive lifting equipment during installation and maintenance.

Jack also shared that in conventional regulators, the diaphragm is the most common failure point. By eliminating the diaphragm, Oxford Flow has reduced the risk of regulator fatigue and failure. With a single moving part, the IM regulator minimizes potential failures and the risk of unplanned maintenance – maximizing efficiency and reducing operating costs. Faris mentioned that the IM Series gas regulator can be applied to a wide range of industries, including 100% Hydrogen transmission and distribution with its intelligent system with SCADA to achieve a near real-time network.

The webinar was very informative and inspiring, and ended with a fruitful question-and-answer session.
